Shipra and Sumer’s two week long honeymoon was spent enjoying a helicopter safari around the island, chilling in George Clooney’s favorite retreat and getting a daily ‘recommended’ dose of MaiTais and Pina Coladas.
How we Met
“We were destined to be together. We lived in the same town, graduated from the same school, went to the States for higher education at the same time. After a brief courtship, we had a traditional wedding in the small town of Multai in Madhya Pradesh, India. We currently live in Denver, Colorado, USA.”
Honeymoon Planning
“We’d initially planned to go to the Polynesian Islands or the Cayman Islands but there were visa hassles. We’re both beach bums and so the Hawaiian island of Kauai seemed perfect for our honeymoon. Our idea was to just relax and enjoy our time together amidst nature and some gorgeous beaches.”
Honeymoon Highlights.
“We were just so pleased and grateful to be in the lap of nature but to be honest, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa that was our biggest honeymoon highlight. The resort is an oasis of absolute relaxation and we relished every moment of it. Even normal activities like lounging by the pool felt like an elevated experience. No wonder it’s George Clooney’s favorite retreat! All the rooms at the resort have contemporary Hawaiian decor and peek-a-boo showers (which become transparent with a flick of a switch!)
Our honeymoon was a mix of leisure and adventure. During our two weeks therewe visited the Napali Coast, Poipu Beach, Tunnels Beach, Hanalei Bay, Hanalei Pier, Fern Grotto, Waipoo Falls, Hanakapiai, Wailua Falls (Secret Falls), Opaekaa Falls, Wet and Dry Sea Caves, Waimea Canyons, Princeville, Lihue, Koloa and Queen’s Bath among others. We even visited the dangerous Queen’s Bath at high tide, kayaked our way to the waterfalls and enjoyed a helicopter view of the city.”

“We loved Hawaiian cuisine and relished all their delicacies. We had lots of tropical fruits, seafood and enjoyed our daily dose of Mai Tais and Pina Coladas by the beach!”
Most Romantic moment.
“We did a helicopter tour over Kauai Island which was the most romantic thing. The tour was about one and a half hours long and we had breathtaking views of the waterfalls, canyons, tropical forests, Napali Coast cliffs and the vast Pacific Ocean. It was a truly magical experience at 35,000 feet above ground!”
Advice for couples planning a honeymoon in Hawaii.
“We highly recommend the helicopter tour, Napali Coast Boat ride, Hawaiian Luau feast and dance at the Grand Hyatt. If you are in great shape and like a bit if an adrenaline rush, then do a trek to the secret waterfalls. It’s a one-hour long journey but totally worth it. We also highly recommend going to the Queen’s Bath at low tide as it can get dangerous during high tide.”
Can-avoid
“Napali Coast Boat tour on a small boat. Small boats are jerky and can cause seasickness. Go on a big boat instead.”
