Shivi and Saransh, Iceland

Shivi and Saransh drove over 2,200 km and visited more than 50 spots on their incredible Iceland honeymoon.

Shaped by volcanic eruptions and enveloped under a blanket of snow, Iceland looks like something out of a surreal fairytale in winter. Shivi and Saransh’s honeymoon there resulted in some truly unique adventures, and Shivi shares some of their most memorable experiences.

How They Met
“Saransh and I first met as undergraduate students at our college in Jaipur. He was two years my senior. Nonetheless, we got talking and went only forward from there.”

Honeymoon Planning
“For our honeymoon, we were looking to explore a place that was unique and relatively unfrequented. We had always wanted to see the Northern Lights together for a while; therefore, visiting one of the Scandinavian countries was an obvious choice. We wanted a winter destination where we could enjoy self-driven tours, get a taste of adventure and stay in beautiful, cozy properties that we had always dreamed of. Iceland ticked a lot of boxes for us. We also happen to be big ‘Game of Thrones’ fans which gave us just another excuse to visit this country!”

Honeymoon Highlights
“We covered the entire country starting from the capital city of Reykjavik, and moved towards West Iceland, North Iceland, East Fjords, South Iceland and then back to Reykjavik. The route runs across more than 50 destinations and over 2,200 km. During the road trip, we saw the ice caves in Europe’s biggest glacier and the unforgettable Northern Lights. We enjoyed whale watching in Husavik and took a dip in the geothermal pool in Myvatn with -12 degrees temperature outside. This was a trip packed with some of the most magical experiences! We also added three days to our vacation just to explore and enjoy London.”

Best Meal of the Trip
“The superb wood-fired pizzas that we had at Daddi’s Pizza in Myvatn was one of our best meals in Iceland. The place offers spellbinding views of the mountains and the Hverfjall Crater, which is a tuff ring volcano that erupted 2,500 years ago.”

Most Romantic Moment
“This has got to be at the East Fjords where we saw the spectacular Northern Lights. It was a dream come true and a night to remember.”

Advice For Couples

Must Experience
“Road tripping on the Ring Road. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity which couples should try.”

Can Avoid
“Driving in snow-covered roads despite forecasts of bad weather is avoidable. Iceland can be rough, so it is best to respect nature and listen to the locals.”

Must Avoid
“Avoid driving at speeds above the permissible limits especially in case of strong winds. Wind speeds in Iceland can go up to 60 km/hour because of which we even saw a few cars going off-road.”
