Shreya Sen and Saurish Basu, Bali

Shreya and Saurish’s fun filled wedding led to a relaxed honeymoon in the beautiful beaches of Bali.

Shreya and Saurish walked in search of Warungs (small local cafes), relaxed on a sea swing and indulged themselves in relaxing spa massages in their week long honeymoon in Bali

Honeymoon Planning
Our wedding was beautiful and we were really looking forward to an extremely relaxed, laid back holiday. I’d been to Bali before and thought it was the perfect island paradise. It has a great blend of local and international cuisine, culture, warm service and tons of water sports activities for the adrenaline seekers. We were looking forward to just chilling in Bali. Also in addition to the culture and activities, we knew the weather is mild all year round, a definite plus for us.

Honeymoon Highlights
We spent a week in Nusa Lembongan and Ubud. In Nusa Lembongan, we checked into the Batu Karang – a great luxury resort with beautiful views of the ocean from our room. We loved the candle light dinners at their restaurant and the quirky cocktails at the Deck Bar. In Nusa Lembongan our favorite thing to do was go to Warung Pintu, sit on their floating swings and watch the ocean. Sunsets were perfect from Sandy Bay; they even have an infinity pool in their restaurant! We used to just pop open a bottle of champagne and sit there for hours together. In Ubud, we stayed at the Royal Tulip Visesa Hotel. The property mostly comprises individual villas with private pools. In Ubud, we explored the famous rice terraces, tried the delicious Lumbak Coffee or ‘poopy’ coffee as they call it. We even walked down numerous stairs to discover Goa Gajah or the elephant cave. We then watched a wonderful Legong dance in Ubud Palace, walked through some beautiful temples likes Tirt Empul and Pura Saraswati and explored tons of street stores with gorgeous furniture and art. We made sure that we saved our last day only for indulgent massages and spa care.

Best meal of the trip
Warungs are the local ‘desi dhaba’ or family owned restaurants famous for their authentic Balinese cuisine. We’d go looking for little warungs to get a real taste of the local flavours. The Nasi Goreng at Warung Pintu was by far our favorite. Among all the restaurants we went to, we loved Hujan Locale in Ubud- the food was delicious and the service was great. It was also special because it has a modern take on traditional Indonesian food while keeping all its flavors and spices intact. Do try their canoi roti, rendang and the lamb dishes.

Most romantic moment
Our most romantic moment was while watching the sunset in Nusa Lembongan at Sandy Bar. It was just one of the moments that was perfect in every sense.

Your advice to other couples planning to honeymoon in Bali
Check out the islands near Bali like Gili Islands or Nusa Lembongan. They’re perfect romantic getaways if you want to relax and indulge in water sports. Bali has some amazing spa services; our favorite was the Karsa Spa in Ubud. For an adventure of the palate, don’t miss the local version of coconut and special durian gelato! Also don’t forget to experience the little things, as a couple. They make for great memories!

a. Can-avoid
Avoid trying to shuffle between Ubud and Seminyak as there is a lot of traffic in these areas. The Kecak dance was not something we would recommend at Tanah Lot. It starts off great, with the sun setting in the background but after a while, it can get a tad boring!

b. Must-avoid
Walking around in the afternoon, Bali tends to get really hot.
