Sukriti and Rahul, New Zealand

Sukriti and Rahul headed out to New Zealand for a road trip and adventure on their fun filled honeymoon!

Sixteen days of adrenaline, adventure and of course, some romance, as Dubai-based newlyweds, Rahul and Sukriti tripped out in New Zealand. The bride tells all.

We were in the same college, IIT Delhi but we never met until we both joined a startup in Dubai 2 years ago. It was as if fate moved us both to Dubai so we could meet. It wasn’t love at first sight but many post-office dinners, walks around the lake and some salsa dancing later, we expressed our feelings to each other. Less than two years since our first meeting, we tied the knot on the 6th of February, 2017.

Honeymoon Planning
I was set on going to New Zealand on our honeymoon and Rahul just had to agree. We’re both very adventurous and love natural beauty and New Zealand was the perfect mix of exhilarating experiences and extraordinary landscapes. We took a road trip from Auckland in the North Island all the way up to Queenstown in the South Island and it was perfect!

Honeymoon Highlights
There is so much to see in New Zealand that we’re sure we could go back and still find new places to explore.

We lived in 7 different cities, not settling down for more than 2 or 3 days at a stretch. Our best stays were at The Fairway at Ocean Ridge, Kaikoura, a luxurious 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the mountains, Chateau on the Park, Christchurch which was a lovely DoubleTree by Hilton property and Heritage Queenstown, just a short walk from the lake.

Places we would highly recommend:
Rotorua- The city dazzles with spectacular geothermal creations, Waiotapu, Wairakei terraces and hotpools are a must see!
Waitomo Glowworm Caves- Black water rafting here is amazing, you get to navigate through a cave and see millions of glow worms which is a magnificent sight.
Hobbiton- For all the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fans, this is heaven! Just make sure you don’t run out of space on your cameras.
Kayaking with the seals- Kaikoura is an ideal spot for kayaking. Not only did we encounter seals in their natural habitat, we also saw baby penguins swimming. What a delight to watch!
Nevis Swing and Skydiving- For all the adventurous souls out there, NZ hosts the world’s biggest swing. And to skydive over Glenorchy (Middle Earth in LOTR) is something one can never forget.
Milford Sound- Milford Sound is quite literally the end of the world with vast expanses of water, zillions of waterfalls and near vertical mountains making it a spectacle like no other.

Most Romantic Moment
We were trekking towards a waterfall in Rotorua. It was the perfect setting- light rain, a beautiful waterfall in the background, greenery everywhere and we had paradise to ourselves.
