Raj and Ankita had dual wedding celebrations, one in the US, and the other in India. Here, Ankita shares details of her romance with Raj and how they created wedding memories at iconic landmarks in San Francisco.
How We Met
“We met at Purdue University where we were both studying at the time. He was a senior, so he graduated and moved away two months after I joined. We bonded really well and found that our friendship grew into a deep, inseparable love over time. Our relationship was mostly a long-distance one for around five years till we decided to get married.”
Wedding Planning
“We got married in San Francisco in December 2016. It was a very private function, with just us and a couple of close friends. Raj always wanted an intimate wedding ceremony with just our immediate families and loved ones around. However, our parents wanted a ‘big, fat Indian wedding’ so we decided on dual celebrations in New Delhi as well. We chose to get married in San Francisco as I live there. The architecture of the San Francisco City Hall which we chose as our wedding venue is simply breathtaking.
Pre-Wedding Outdoor Shoot
“We did an outdoor pre-wedding shoot with Florida-based photographer Arlene Jacobs at Baker Beach. We also shot at Pier 7 and the Palace of Fine Arts, all of which happen to be my favorite places in the city. We got lucky with the beach shoot. Arlene approached me saying she was looking for a couple to model for her beach theme wedding projects. So we basically got her services, along with those of calligraphers, decorators, makeup artists, dresses, everything – for free! We just had to pose in these beautiful locations.”

Raj and Ankita went for a white wedding theme for their US wedding celebrations. She wore a beautiful white gown and he wore a black suit with a white shirt. They posed against the magnificent ramparts of the City Hall with its imposing structures and beautiful arches. Ankita’s beautiful ensemble came with a delicate net train and she wore beautifully crafted wrist-length lace gloves. Her pretty bouquet of red, pink and white blooms added a touch of color to the proceedings. The couple went in for a colorful and vibrant Indian nuptials back home in New Delhi which was attended by a large gathering of their family members and friends.
