How We Met
On November 14th, I was running to get a train to meet a friend for drinks. As I rushed to the ticket machine, I noticed an extremely handsome guy out of the corner of my eye. I had two choices – look at him properly or make my train. I chose the latter and ran to get the ticket and reach the platform. At the platform, he was standing behind me and I couldn’t look at him directly. So I started fixing my hair so I could sneak a look around.

The train arrived and I stood by the door instead of sitting. And so did he! I gave him a thorough once over – perfectly trimmed beard, polished shoes, busy watching something on his phone. I knew I had to strike up a conversation and not let the opportunity go. I gathered courage, walked up to him and asked him if the charging point next to him was available. I already knew it was. So, very confidently, I went and stood by him and plugged my 98% charged phone.

He loves to talk and we discussed work, Mumbai, Delhi, and lots of other things until we got to our station. Then, he asked me if I wanted to take the train back together and numbers were exchanged. Little did we know that we wouldn’t just take the train back, we’d end up having our first unofficial date that day too.

Months later he confessed that if I hadn’t come up to talk to him he was going to show me a note on his phone with his phone number on it and ask me to text him.

In the five years that we dated, a lot happened including our siblings falling in love with each other and getting married!

Wedding Venue
Our wedding ceremony took place at the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur while the reception was hosted at The Crescent Beach Club.

When I was a young girl, my Dadaji (grandfather) would go to the gurudwara in Delhi every morning. As my sister and I stood at the bus stop we could hear him sing the Gurbani. Ever since I wanted to get married in a gurudwara. He is no longer physically with us and so it felt like the only place where he would be a part of our day. His presence was definitely missed but being at the gurudwara just made me feel he was right there.

Pooran is from Mumbai and was determined to celebrate his big day by the water so we chose The Crescent Beach Club for our reception. Even before we reached the venue, he told me I was going to fall in love with this place, and he was right.

Wedding Function

Wedding
We got married in a Sikh wedding ceremony at a gurudwara. The venue was decorated in pink and beige and fresh blooms were used to add a sense of delicacy to the setup. The entrance was draped with lush fabrics in similar hues and inside the couple seating had a floral backdrop in alignment with the color scheme.

I wore a red lehenga to look like the quintessential Indian bride and the tassels of my blouse read #BeekaPooh and our wedding date. That made for a quirky little personalization of my outfit. Pooran was dapper in a white sherwani that featured gold embroidery and was paired with a peach saafa and dupatta.

Reception
The venue for our reception was just perfect; right by the water and intimate enough for us to enjoy our moment with our friends and family. The evening was filled with emotional speeches, dance performances and a whole lot of fun.

The setup was very elegant. We had a stage created for Pooran and I to sit on. In front of its textured backdrop, we had a metallic panel which added dimension to the setting and a white sofa. The area was dotted with round tables that were adorned with beautiful flower arrangements.

I wore a grey lehenga for this event while Pooran chose to dress up in a black tuxedo.
