Nayha and Zubin, Memphis, US
Nayha and Zubin hosted their wedding in Memphis and almost every detail symbolized their deep cultural beliefs.
Medical students Nayha and Zubin first met at university and hung out with a large group of common friends. They got together a year later, and after spending a lot of time together, the two realized that they were soulmates. The groom shares their sweet love story and highlights of the wedding.
How We Met
“Nayha and I met in the summer of 2010 when we were rising juniors at the University of Michigan. We were both in relationships at the time but hung out with the same group of friends. We’d occasionally run into each other when we were out but never really spent time together alone. Fast-forward to the summer of 2011 – I was single, and we were hanging out in the same crowd once again. I asked a close friend of both of ours if Nayha was single and found out she was. Since we had similar tastes in music, I asked her if she wanted to go to some shows together. Quite a few late nights and some pretty crazy football Saturdays later, we realized we had spent almost every day of the past month together. We were inseparable for the rest of senior year and ever since.”
“We got married at The Peabody Memphis which is one of the most magical places in the city. It was hard to say no to its history, grandeur, and elegance. It is also one of the few venues in Memphis that can accommodate groups of the size we were expecting.
“While organizing the celebrations, we faced a fair share of challenges because Indian nuptials are not just a one-day affair like Western weddings. It is an elaborate and intricate family gathering full of meaningful cultural festivities. Balancing medical school while being in a long-distance relationship only added to the stress. Our event planner Sonal J. Shah and her team helped us turn our dreams into reality. They took care of our every little concern and went beyond their professional capacity by adding that sensitive and emotional touch alongside giving us their valuable inputs and support for all our functions.”
“The choice of functions and the decor was fine-tuned to reflect our deep-rooted cultural beliefs. We wanted our wedding to be colorful and expressive of the joy that both of us, as well as our families experienced. Large vases with bouquets lined the aisle, and the mandap was enveloped in fresh blooms. Sabyasachi Mukherjee was our dream couturier, and most of our wedding outfits were by him. Nayha wore exquisite jewelry by TBZ.”
“At our reception, the exotic floral arrangement and choice of decor reflected our tastes as imbued in timeless elegance. The setting saw abundant white flowers whose beauty was elevated by golden accents. Just above the dancefloor, we had a large floral chandelier that was just the finishing touch the setup needed.”
