Priyanka and Sahil

Priyanka and Sahil created sweet memories during their traditional yet modern wedding at Sugar Land in Houston, Texas.

How we met
Priyanka and Sahil met through the matrimonial section of The Times of India thanks to their parents. Priyanka shares, “Sahil and I were both born in India. He has lived in the US for the last 10 years, and works as a technology consultant. I worked as an investment manager and lived in Houston for eight years before we wed. Although we lived miles apart in two different states, that did not stop us from getting close to each other.” They tied the knot on April 3 this year in Texas.

Wedding Venue and Functions
Priyanka says she and Sahil fell in love with their wedding venue – the SweetWater Country Club in Sugar Land, which lies in the Southwest of Houston in Texas. “It has a beautiful golf course and lots of open space. I wanted an outdoor wedding and an indoor reception so this venue was perfect for both options,” shares Priyanka.

The wedding blended traditional and modern elements. From the mehndi and sangeet functions to the chuda ceremony, pheras and reception, this wedding included multicultural guests, magnificent environs and memorable moments for all. The primary colours that were used for the floral and related décor were orange and blue. The mandap was set on a lawn for the daytime wedding, in front of divided seating arrangements for guests. Its base and roof canopy were covered in white silk while its pillars were festooned with rich orange and peach drapes and floral garlands that were held in place by beautiful bouquets. The colours matched Priyanka’s peach and gold lehenga ensemble which contrasted well with Sahil’s dark blue sherwani from Kora.

Trousseau Shopping
Priyanka and Sahil say they did most of their trousseau shopping in India. She chose a vibrant fuschia saree with silver motifs from Nalli for the sangeet ceremony. Her peach wedding outfit with golden net dupatta, and formal green-and-gold reception dress were both from Gangore, in Malad, Mumbai, while Sahil picked the blue wedding ensemble and off-white achkan for the sangeet from Kora, also in Mumbai. He donned an Armani suit for the reception. Priyanka selected her bridal jewellery from outlets in the busy Jwala Heri market in New Delhi.

Challenges of organising an Indian wedding in the US
“There were a lot of challenges when it came to planning and organising the wedding! Our families were based in India and managing everything on our own was a struggle as vendors are all scattered across different places,” recalls Priyanka.
