Seema and Sunny's wedding ensembles were customized to include motifs like constellations, 'nazar' symbols and a special tile design from the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Seema and Sunny’s wedding celebrations that unfolded at 100-year-old properties in the US incorporated nuances of their personalities as well as their love story. The two explored a distinctive concept at each function, and the photos capture all the sensational moments. The bride shares some highlights of the celebrations here.
How We Met
“I came to New York in December of 2014 to visit one of my really good friends Nishi, and she planned a fun night out in the city with her friends. Sunny was there, I was there, and we immediately hit it off. We started dating long distance but soon enough (six months later!) I moved to New York permanently!”
The Proposal
“Paris has always been a magical place for me as it was an inspiration for our company and when we had started dating, I had tagged him on a photo on Instagram telling him just how I wanted to be proposed to. Much to my surprise, he never forgot and recreated that for me. We had to travel to Paris for a business meeting, and we needed our photographer to come along. Sunny booked a night at the Shangri-La Hotel, which is my absolute favorite. We checked into the Shangri-La Terrace Suite that I always dreamed of. We stepped onto the terrace, and there was champagne waiting for us and flowers everywhere. I had my back to him as I took pictures of the beautiful views of the city and the Eiffel Tower and when I turned around, he was on one knee. It was the perfect moment, and of course, our photographer was there to capture every moment.”
Wedding Venues
“Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami was the venue for our sangeet, the ‘anand karaj’ took place at the Biltmore Hotel Miami Coral Gables, and the reception was hosted at Alfred Dupont Building in Miami. Each of these three venues has historical significance and are 100 years old! They all are so different but just as beautiful. We wanted our guests to see a different part of Miami and having our celebrations at these three spots allowed us to achieve this.” Not to forget Blink & Company who captured every moment for our wedding to perfection.”
Wedding Functions
Sangeet
“Paris has a deep meaning to our relationship, especially since Sunny proposed to me over there. Therefore, we wanted our first function to be reminiscent of the French Capital and decided on decor that took the Parisian route. I wore a grey Tarun Tahiliani lehenga with a cape at the event and later changed into a custom, dark blue outfit with constellations and evil eye motifs that I designed with Sajda By Suman. Sunny wore a grey achkan with golden work and then changed into a black one to complement my attires.”
Wedding
“Our ‘anand karaj’ had a very elegant feel to it, and we created the right mood using pastel hues. The open-air setting ensured that there was plenty of natural light, thus adding to the soothing ambiance. We also made it a point to have flowers from Venus ET Fleur at every event, and they made sure that each setup was unique and appealing. My rust colored lehenga was custom made by Anita Dongre herself who incorporated roses, a special tile design from the Golden Temple and a few evil eye motifs to ward off negativity in the design. Sunny wore an ivory Rohit Bal sherwani. His outfit featured floral designs and birds motifs, and Rohit Bal customized his collar by getting the same tile design from Golden Temple that was on my lehenga embroidered on it.”
Reception
“We wanted our guests who were present at the reception to feel the romance and the love, and we thought there could be no better way to create this feel than by letting red roses and warm candlelights engulf the venue. Our design team truly did an incredible job of bringing this vision to life. At this event, I wore two different Marchesa gowns – one at the cocktail hour and the other for my entrance into the reception venue. For my first dance, I changed into a lehenga by Sajda By Suman. Sunny wore a Dior tuxedo and bow tie.”
Advice For Couples
“Hire a wedding planner and a decorator, so you don’t need to deal with the stress of coordinating. Design House & Decor knew exactly what my vision was and made it come to life. Make sure you have an idea of what you like before you start shopping for your trousseau. Otherwise, it can get super overwhelming. Try to incorporate your favorite things into the themes, so your wedding is more personalized to your love story!”
