The WeddingSutra Effect
“I got a lot of inspiration from Weddingsutra, especially its Instagram feed, when it came to ideas and inspiration for my own wedding ensembles. I used to browse WeddingSutra for entire days sometimes and that really helped when it came to envisioning the looks I wanted!”

About Me
“I am a textile designer by profession and graduated from Pearl Academy in New Delhi. I use to work with a high-end garment supplier earlier, but am currently looking to start my own studio in Amritsar, Punjab.”

How We Met
“I met Sushen in 2011 as we were both in the same class in college. Our friendship turned into love and we decided on being together forever. Since Sushen comes from a Punjabi family and I am a Brahmin girl, we had to incorporate two cultures in our wedding which was a lot of fun. We got married in a grand manner, and our celebrations included several small traditions alongside other lavish functions in Amritsar, Punjab.”

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
“Since I am a textile designer, I put my professional knowledge to good use and designed all my wedding outfits myself. Our wedding festivities kicked off with a beautiful ‘Mehndi Ki Raat’ function which had very bright and beautiful floral decor. To match the luminous decor, I wore a traditional red gotta patti and zardozi lehenga, and paired it with red bead jewellery that complemented my lehenga very well and brought out my natural bridal glow.”

Engagement
“Our engagement ceremony was an intimate function, and I wanted it to be sophisticated yet simple. I wore a beige self-designed gown designed and accessorized it with big diamond earrings. Later on, I changed to ‘chaand baalis’ (moon-shaped earrings) by Dhawan Jewellers which is a very renowned store in Amritsar.”

‘Chooda’ & Haldi ceremony
My ‘chooda’ (red bridal bangles) and ‘haldi’ (turmeric application) ceremonies were the most enjoyable rituals where the whole family got together and enjoyed the fun rituals to the fullest. I wanted to be comfortable yet stylish, as I knew that I wanted to enjoy each and every moment of these pious functions. I picked a lovely angrakha from Biba and wore the most stunning statement ‘kaleerein’ (dangling ornaments fixed to bridal bangles) and ‘chooda’ set that I scouted from Amritsar.”

Wedding
“I wanted to put my design aesthetics to good use and decided on experimenting with a contrasting color combination for my wedding lehenga. I wore a pink and blue lehenga as I wanted to stay away from the customary red and also wanted to make good use of some bright colors as a summer bride. The Asiana Couture store in Chandni Chowk understood my ideas well and gave me the exact same lehenga that I had envisioned! I am very particular about my jewellery choices and thus, opted for a choker set with statement earrings from Dhawan Jewellers in Amritsar.”

“I got my hair and makeup was done by Shahid Naar, an Amritsar-based makeup artist, who created a natural yet glamorous look that I wanted. Another person who made my wedding special was my wedding photographers from Aman Photography who captured my dreamy fairytale wedding perfectly.”

Cocktail
“We also had a cocktail function which was one big after party where our guests let their hair down and enjoyed to the fullest. Since it involved a lot of song and dance, I wore a beautifully embellished gold anarkali gown which had glittering flower motifs embossed on it. It was the most beautiful ensemble and looked even better with just some statement earrings and heels.”

Advice for to-be-wed couples
“Time will fly during your wedding days, so enjoy each moment and make yourself feel special. Do design something on your own as it will make the celebrations seem more special. Think of a look, then explore the market and shop!”
