The twisted tale of love for Kiran Basra, and Bhupinder, a Financial Advisor from Toronto, Canada, started courtesy a meeting on matrimonial website Shaadi.com. After getting to know each other for three months, the duo decided to commit to each other and tie the knot. "Surprisingly, I never thought I would find love via a matrimonial website, but it happened and I am so glad it did! What attracted me to Bhupinder was his intelligence and sense of humour. He is very well read, thoughtful, sensitive and a thorough gentleman!" says Kiran. Their wedding celebrations were held in her home town in Punjab and the post-wedding receptions in Delhi and Canada.

Wedding Shopping

"This was the best part of the wedding", says Kiran, lighting up at the mere thought of visiting Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC), AZA, Ritu Kumar, Frontier Raas, Satya Paul and Amrapali, all bridal hot-spots in Delhi. She picked a few outfits from Ritu Kumar, "as she has always been one of my favourite designers and some saris from Satya Paul. I was looking for the 'lungi dance' sari and I found that as well!" Kiran shopped for rest of her bridal trousseau in Chandigarh and Amritsar.

Wedding Wear

Pre-Wedding Functions
For the ladies Sangeet/Jaago ceremonies, Kiran designed an outfit with her fellow designer and business partner, Zeena, a traditional orange and green lehenga with beautiful handiwork of block printing and a 3-meter 'odhni'.

For the Path Ceremony, which was a morning event, she opted for a simple yet elegant Ritu Kumar churidaar suit paired with subtle makeup and a French plait.

The difficult part, says Kiran, was finding apt outfits for the bigger events. "But at the end, it was made very easy for me! I had been searching high and low for someone who could understand and re-create my vision based on the themes for the wedding events, and design outfits that screamed 'understated elegance with the right amount of flashiness'" says Kiran of what was going on in her mind. This is when she came across the brand IFE & DEEPAK. Kiran and Farha, the brands Business Creative Head connected well instantly! "She was polite, knew what she was talking about, her ideas reflected mine and the fact that they had beautiful, creative designs with unique detailing, was like the cherry on the cake. All my outfits for the main events, the cocktail, the wedding and both receptions were designed by IFE," says a super impressed Kiran.

For the cocktail function, Kiran wanted an anarkali with a Mughal/Begum look and Farha showed her an outfit that they were working on. A unique blend of fresh mint and turquoise hues with flashes of fuchsia, rusty-zardoz and lots of flare; "The outfit instantly caught my attention. I paired this with vintage chaandbalis from family jewelers in Chandigarh and a Jhoomar to complete the look," says Kiran.

Finalising the outfit for the wedding however was a challenge. "I had my mind set on a beautiful Pakistani lehenga in brocade-silk with a long-kurta silhouette, but my mother wasn't keen on it; she felt it was not traditional enough for a Punjabi affair! So, after discussions with my mother, the designers, and lots of browsing through WeddingSutra.com, fashion sites and social media, I found (on the web) a fuchsia lehenga embellished with traditional Phulkari embroidery. I showed it to my mother and got a resounding 'yes' from her, so this outfit served as my inspiration and I got it customised in a blend of Gota-patti and tons of zardoz! All I can say is we must have done something right, because the end result was my dream ensemble and it was stunning! I accessorised this with a beautiful Kundan set from Talwarsons (Chandigarh) and it was a perfect match to my attire. I felt like royalty on my big day and it was all thanks to Farha & Deepak!" says Kiran.

The reception attire for the Delhi reception was Kiran's expression of art! Prophets dream of divine inspirations, children dream of chocolate fairies and Kiran dreamt of her reception lehenga! "I know I sound a little crazy but what's even crazy is after my discussions with Farha, my dream translated into an actual outfit. It was an Ecru high-waist lehenga embellished in intrinsic resham-chikan, hand-touched in extrinsic zardoz, pearl, dabka and sequin. The flamboyant flare is an IFE & DEEPAK trademark! Aesthetically, it's an out of the box creation and wearing it on my reception, I felt whimsical, almost like a Queen!" she says.

"For my reception in Canada, I wanted to wear red, as that was one colour that was missing from my palette," says Kiran. IFE designed for her a beautiful Cayenne 32-kali, 6-meter, fully flared anarkali with zardoz embellishments and Kiran was the belle of the ball.A lot of compliments came her way because of the ensemble and also because her makeup, which was done by the team of 'Flawless Beauty of Nidhi' who did an amazing job. "My husband was pleased with my choice of outfit and isn't that what really matters?" asks Kiran.

Hairstyling & Makeup

Kiran did her own hair and makeup for the Jaago/Sangeet as she wanted to keep it natural and simple. Google was her best friend, when it came to helping her search for the perfect makeup artist. "I did not want to look caked up and 'white' and after a bit of searching and asking I found Prerna Khullar, a makeup artist based in Jalandhar. I checked her work on Facebook and she fit all my criteria. She did my makeup and hair for the cocktail, wedding and reception," says Kiran.

What also helped was that Kiran knew exactly what she wanted and Prerna followed her instructions to the T, offering some useful insights along the way. "All in all, she did a wonderful job and pictures speak a thousand words. She comes highly recommended," says Kiran.

Photographer & Videographer

"The Knot Crew, our photographers and videographers for the occasion did an amazing job. They captured the essence of our crazy wedding! They are inconspicuous, very professional and I will definitely hire them for my younger brother's wedding", says Kiran.

- I recommend brides to check PFDC and Aza as they have gorgeous outfits, but I felt they are a little on the expensive side, so please take more than a pocket full of cash.
- For custom-made ensembles in exquisite detailing, definitely check out IFE & DEEPAK and of course my new brand Harkiran Basra.
- For exquisite jewellery, you must definitely visit Amrapali Jewels in Khan Market, Delhi. I have never witnessed such craftsmanship! Their showroom transports you into another era as it did for me.
