Malika Singh

Tarun and Malika met through an arranged marriage set-up. He is a desi guy from Muscat and Malika a Punjabi girl from Haryana, she calls herself the half Delhi half Bombay kudi since she has lived in both cities. After a couple of emails, phone conversations and meetings, they both knew they had to be together. Three months later they got engaged, and coincidentally they got married exactly a year after they met! “Our wedding was a lot of firsts for me”, shares Malika, “The first guy I met through the arranged route, the first hotel I visited as the possible venue for our destination wedding, the first lehenga I saw both for the sangeet and the wedding.”

Sunset Beach Wedding in Goa

After their engagement in Muscat, the couple holidayed at the Alila Diwa, Goa for a short while and two days later they decided to arrange all the wedding functions at the same venue. To end the monotony, they mutually decided to have a sunset wedding at the Zeebop shack in south Goa, thus setting the limitless beach as a playground for the wedding celebrations.

Wedding shopping

Malika’s personal style is easy, pretty, innovative and practical. There was only one thought on her mind when she did her shopping rounds that she would pick outfits which could be worn again in future. For Tarun, she picked very classy, subtle and khandani outfits keeping his style and physic in mind. “Shopping for me was the easiest. No never-ending rounds, no last minute chaos. It all fell into place as effortlessly as I decided Tarun was the guy for me!”.

Anamika Khanna anarkali for Mehndi

The funky Mela themed occasion was brought to life with a fun photo booth, sugarcane juice & candy floss stalls, live street food counters, signature M & T drinks, masseurs and dhol wallas. The vibrant dÃÆ’©cor was complete with origami and paper decorations clubbed with fuchsia pink drapes along with orange genda phool curtains. Malika wore a plain yellow Anamika Khanna anarkali suit and tweaked it a little by wearing a vibrant jacket designed by Nidhi Tholia, a Jaipur based designer. Tarun wore a classic sunshine yellow kurta.

Abu Jani Lehenga for Sangeet

Malika looked stunning in a red Abu Jani gotta lehenga which she had spotted long before the wedding. “The best part about the lehenga was that it was feather light” exclaims Malika. She had the blouse of the lehenga customized which turned out to be gorgeously different from the actual design. Tarun wore an outfit designed by Govinda Mehta for the sangeet.

Haldi

For the Haldi, Malika wore a simple yet pretty Fab India yellow cotton suit.

Anamika Khanna Lehenga Saree for Wedding

Malika was clear about what outfit she wanted. “I wanted this new shade of pink that is so fresh and so me, but I found very few designers working with that shade. Anamika Khanna was perhaps the only one who gets it 100% spot on”, comments Malika. She wore a salmon pink lehenga saree with a red blouse. Malika chose beach colours and a light outfit keeping her beach wedding in mind. The silver dori work on it made it look stately and delicate, and the red blouse and the add-on dupatta completed the bridal look to the outfit. Malika wore a can can petticoat which was custom-made for her lehenga sari, to give it that flounce and the whole fluffy look. “Mom and I worked on the add-on dupatta. We got it dyed and found a beautiful border to go along with the silver dori work. So while it was Anamika, we added our own touch to the outfit”. Tarun wore a Kunal Tanna sherwani for the wedding.

Make Up & Hair

“The artists I chose (an unassuming bollywood make-up and hair artist) were affable and they made me look good”, says Malika. For Mehndi she just wore her Nani’s earrings and kept it simple. Whereas, for the Sangeet she wore an emerald set from Jaipur. Malika found her wedding jewellery the most special because it was done by Mr. Soni ji, who has been coming to her Nani’s house since years to make jewellery for the family.

Wedding Moments

For Malika, their Doli was the most epic moment of the wedding. It was no less than a big party where the couple and Malika’s siblings piled up in the vintage car and had fun as they sang and danced back to the hotel where the party continued. Another special wedding moment Malika cherishes is when she and Tarun put the garland around each other. “It actually felt like, Yes, we are half way married!”, she recalls.

Malika’s tips for the Brides-To-Be…

Know your style and tweak outfits as per your taste. Sometime you don’t get the perfect one in stores, so make it your perfect outfit by adding your touch and creativity to it.

• Keep it light and fun, dance around, prance around and let loose. Don’t forget to enjoy your big day!
• Get things that you will wear again for occasions like friends’ weddings; thus making your wedding outfits a permanent part your closet.
• Don’t cake your gorgeous face with makeup!
