How We Met
“Alex and I worked at Barclays in Sydney, but we never spoke to each other since we were in different departments. However, when it was time for that office to shut down, we worked together on several projects that we had to wrap up before the workplace closed for good. Due to this, we ended up spending a lot of time together. There was no real catalyst. It was just that the more we spoke, the better we got to know one another. We started becoming closer and eventually fell in love. What’s funny is that when we started dating, it was time for us to move out of Australia. He was posted at the Barclays office in London while I was sent to their Singapore branch, so we were in a long- distance relationship the whole time.”

Proposal
“He was the one who proposed and he did a really good job at that. We had planned a trip to the Caribbean and were staying at the Jade Blue Hotel in Saint Lucia. The room was gorgeous with a patio, an infinity pool and the view of the ocean. On the evening he proposed to me, he told the hotel about his plan, instructed them on the kind of set up he would like in our room and took me out so that the team could get the job done. When we returned the whole room and patio were decorated with candles. I instantly knew that it was coming. However, he took his own sweet time! He had arranged for private dinner for us and he made me sit through two courses before he asked me to marry him. Before the dessert arrived, he popped the question. It was beautiful and just the way I would have wanted it to be.”

Wedding Planning
“Weddings by Keeran were our wedding planners. Keeran and Meghna came highly recommended and they were so much fun to work with. Meghna and I got along very well and had such great ideas for the wedding. She understood what I wanted and was patient and easy to work with. While Keeran did get involved with regards to certain aspects of decor, Meghna was with us through and through. The vendors that they recommended were just the right match for us. They understand client budgets well and personalized each concept to make it unique for us.”

Wedding Venue
“Meghna and Keeran were the ones who recommend that we get married in Thailand because of the hospitality offered there and we couldn’t have been happier about trusting their judgment. When we went to SO Sofitel Hua Hin for a recce with Meghna, we fell in love with the property. To top it off it was not very far away from the airport and gave us an option of a complete buyout. Both these factors were important as we had family and friends who would be flying in from all over the globe so the hotel’s distance from the airport was key and having the entire property to ourselves, allowed us a lot more flexibility. Over the course of three days, we used every aspect of the property. The staff was so professional, especially Khun Nam Wan who handled our wedding. We did not face any issues during the wedding, there were no surprise costs and the team went above and beyond to make our day special for us.”

Wedding Functions

Grah Shanti Pooja and Haldi
“We did the pooja in the villa and this was followed by the ‘haldi’ (turmeric application) ceremony. The best part was watching everyone embrace Indian traditions. About eighty percent of the guests at our wedding were non-Indians but everyone was so accepting of the culture which was quite heartwarming. Alex’s brothers smeared turmeric all over him They had never done anything like this before and they had a lot of fun.”

Welcome Dinner
“All our guests had arrived in time for dinner so we just wanted to ease them into the festive mood. The vibe for this event was very relaxed and took place on the beach. The atmosphere that was created was beautiful with a mix of low seating as well as the regular table and chairs.”

Mehendi
“Our mehendi was held by the pool. Alex loves pools so this was the only function for which he had any input. When Meghna and I were discussing details for this event, his biggest concern was the floaties that were going to be used! The concept for this event was ‘Alex in Wonderland’ and while we didn't have a lot of decor for this, the little that we did was beautiful. There was a little canopy that had been set up with elements reminiscent of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. There was a whimsical throne, lots of florals and even clocks that were used to decorate that space. Meghna suggested that we enter in groups with our friends and so we did. We got smoke bombs to add a little more drama to our entries and walked in as our songs played in the background. My mehendi outfit was from Fuel and while Alex’s was from Jade Blue.”

Sangeet
“This evening was inspired by Thailand. We wanted to incorporate a lot of that Thai culture in this event and so one of our original ideas was to have Thai dancers, and Meghna suggested ladyboys (transgender performers). She showed us video and we were sold. The space was decorated using lavender and golden colors. A lavender fabric made for the backdrop of the stage and strings of golden leaves were suspended in front of it. The whole thing looked lovely!” “Just like any other sangeet, our friends and families had prepared for their performances - which were hilarious! There was one group who forgot their steps so they opened their laptop, put it on the stage and started copying steps from YouTube! This made their whole act very entertaining. Alex’s friends performed to the ‘Baby Doll’ number wearing masks that had his face printed on them. Alex and his brothers had learned their dance through videos that the choreographer had sent them. So his brothers learned the steps like they were mirroring the teacher while Alex had inversed the movements so when they performed on stage he was going in the opposite direction of everyone else and in the middle his twin started freestyling!” “My makeup artist who was present at the function said that they never stay back for the events but our sangeet was so funny that they stuck around for the entire function. This definitely was the most fun event that we had!”

Wedding
“The following afternoon we got married and Alex got his wish of entering on an elephant. The only thing that we altered for the ‘baraat’ (groom’s procession) was that instead of having ‘dhol walas’ (traditional drummers), we had a DJ play songs for them to dance on. We had a bar set up where we had arranged for shots so that everyone could loosen up and dance away. Once again we had a funny incident at the wedding since our pandit showed up really late. By then Alex was completely dehydrated and everyone was rushing him to get done with the pheras quickly so that we would be in time for the reception later. To add to it, he had said that knew perfect English - this was a mandate so that our guests would understand what was happening, but at the mandap, he had brought a translator with him who could tell us what were the vows we were taking.” “Our mandap was set against the view of the ocean so we really didn’t want to go big on decor for this function. The venue itself was so gorgeous that all we really did was set up mandap and decorate it with peach flowers and we were done. For this function, both of us wore outfits by Shyamal and Bhumika.”

Reception
“For our reception, I wore a blue and golden Indo-Western lehenga which was made by a designer in London. Alex and I danced to ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’ by Coldplay for our first dance. Our guests made a passage using sparklers and we walked through it to enter the venue. We didn't want to limit the decor to any particular the theme so we stuck to white as the dominating color for this night. There was a dance floor that had been set up in the middle with a roof made of fairy lights. The tables had big centerpieces and the bar was done up using flowers, glass, and candles. It was all very clean, sophisticated and beautiful.”

Advice For Couples
“Be on the ground before your wedding and definitely have food tastings. We did this and it worked out so well. Get a good DJ. We had DJ Sunny and he was above all our expectations. Music is what takes any party to the next level and he knew what he was doing. Photographer and videographers are important. It’s only through your photographs and videos that you will be able to return to your wedding day which is why you want to make sure that they are good at their work. Weerayut Janthai clicked beautiful photos of our wedding which made everlasting memories. Lastly, make sure you have a great wedding planner. We had Weddings by Keeran take care of everything. They planned and executed everything so well that we didn't have to worry about anything.”
