Divya and Mohit, Mumbai

Divya and Mohit's wedding celebrations in Mumbai included a glitzy Broadway/Bollywood cocktail party and an 'enchanted forest' for the pheras.

Getting married at a location different from their city was not possible for Divya and Mohit, but they still wanted a destination wedding vibe. They managed to do that when their loved ones gathered at the Sahara Star hotel in Mumbai and made lovely memories over the course of the celebrations. Here, bride Divya shares some special highlights of the functions.

How We Met
“Mohit came into my life when I had given up hopes of a love marriage. I had already started seeing other boys as arranged by my parents and Mohit too had met girls introduced to him by his family. Deep down, however, both of us wanted to be with someone who we would choose for ourselves. We met for the first time on my birthday in 2016 through common friends and just hit it off from there. It was made clear right at the start that neither of us was looking for a fling and were interested in a serious long-term relationship only. We started dating each other with the intention of marriage in mind and just to see our compatibility as husband and wife. Soon it was clear that we were perfect for each other and a year later we got engaged.”

Wedding Venue
“Both of us had dreamed of a destination wedding but unfortunately couldn’t have that. Therefore, we made the Sahara Star hotel in Mumbai our mini ‘destination’. We, along with all our guests, stayed there for the duration of the wedding. The functions took place in the hotel’s Jade Ballroom.”

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
“We had two mehndi functions. The first one was a smaller affair and took place at my house. We decorated the place with yellow and orange marigolds and fairy lights. We also filled glass jars with jar lights and flowers and placed them around the home. I wore a yellow gown for this function and paired it with jewellery made with fresh flowers. The second function was where all our guests got mehndi applied on their hands. The decor was a mix of traditional and rustic. The entrance was decorated using branches, yellow and orange marigold blooms and ‘kaliras’ (dangling ornaments). The same theme continued indoors where we used hot pink and parrot green cushions as seating that added to the decor. I wore a pale green gown for this event.”

Cocktail
“The theme for this event was ‘Broadway/Bollywood,’ and we wanted this function to be all about flamboyance and glamour. We had a lot of lights and bulbs everywhere. A huge ” LOVE #MODI ” stand-alone feature was created using marquee lights. This one was loved by all of our guests, and so many of them clicked pictures of themselves with this decor element. ”

Wedding
“The venue was made to look like an enchanted forest for our wedding. I had asked my decor team to use more of forest greens and less of florals. The flowers that were used were all in muted tones of pink and orange. We incorporated a few white flowers too. There was a big chandelier hung from the center of the mandap which added a regal air to the whole set up. I wore a red lehenga for the wedding while Mohit opted for a beige sherwani from Telon.”

Reception
“Our reception took place right after the wedding. Mohit changed into a custom-made bandhgala from Raymond Made To Measure for this function. I didn’t have enough time to switch outfits, so I simply changed my hairdo and the way my dupatta was draped – and I was ready for the big finale!”
