How They Met
“Rahul and I were office buddies in Mumbai and were working on the same project. While spending countless hours together, we found a confidante in each other. He confessed his feelings for me, but I couldn’t take it forward as I had just gotten out of a relationship and wasn’t in the right space to start afresh yet. When my mother visited Mumbai, I introduced her to Rahul, and she was convinced that he was the one for me. It was when I left for Canada to further my career, I realized I wanted him in the next phase of my life.”

Wedding Venue
“My parents always had the desire to get me married at the Lakshmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara. When Rahul was visiting me, back when we were friends, my mother showed him the palace while crossing it and told him she wanted to celebrate my wedding there. It is situated in the heart of the city and is quadruple the size of Buckingham Palace with expansive lawns and banquets. I had always dreamt of having a morning wedding in an open, airy space, and Lukshmi Vilas Palace was the perfect pick.”

Wedding Planning
“Since I belong to a Tamil Gujarati mixed family and Rahul is a Bihari Air Force kid, we decided to have a Gujarati wedding with some Bihari customs early in the morning to mimic a Tamil wedding. We wanted to host a sustainable wedding, so we picked everything from invites to decor that was eco-friendly. For the wedding design, we took inspirations from Pinterest. We did the recce of the venue and designed everything on paper. My cousin Ukti and I, turned artists and painted the welcome signages ourselves. We got only 50 wedding invites printed on handmade, recycled paper, and for the rest, we sent out digital save-the-date e-vites.”

Sustainable Wedding
“The wedding decor was a mix of South Indian elements and contemporary decorations with reusable artificial flowers instead of real ones. Strict instructions were passed onto the planner and property not to use any plastic bottles for water, and we consciously chose to avoid fireworks or color bombs during the wedding. Even our garland with fresh light pink roses were made by our gardener. Rahul’s baraat entered with him sitting in a jeep, and a band playing alongside. The guests enjoyed the foot-tapping music of a live acoustic band. Staying true to my Tamil heritage, I decided to wear a red saree for the wedding, and Rahul opted for a beige Jodhpuri suit with intricate threadwork embroidered on the collar. We matched our outfits where he wore a pocket square made from my spare blouse fabric. He also got a customized safa pin that teamed with my maang tikka. For my makeup, I went for a subtle smoky eye effect and eyeliner and colored my lips with an antique rose-pink shade.”
