Mehak and Ashmeet, Europe

From glittering crystals to gorgeous, snow-clad mountains, Mehak and Ashmeet's European honeymoon included top spots in Austria, Italy and the Netherlands

Professional photographers Mehak Chawla and Ashmeet Singh run a company called Studio Finesse in New Delhi. They first met at their mentor Mr. SPS Kalra’s studio where they would assist him in shoots on Sundays. The rest, as they say, is history, and they got married on the 5th of February this year in New Delhi. The couple went on a two-week honeymoon to Europe. Here, Mehak shares highlights of their honeymoon there.

Honeymoon Planning
“We’ve both visited Europe before and were always in awe of its beauty. Being photographers by profession, we share the admiration for natural beauty. So we chose mountains over beaches. We shortlisted Europe from our other options as it seemed to have a variety of countries we could explore. We opted for Venice to keep our trip clichéd yet romantic, Innsbruck, because it was comparable with Switzerland and both of us are suckers for snow, and Amsterdam, because it was the most happening place out of all three.”

Honeymoon Highlights
“We visited Venice in Italy, Innsbruck in Austria and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In Venice, we stayed at a 4-star hotel called All Angelo, and in Innsbruck, we booked into the Grauer Bar Hotel. In Amsterdam, we opted for NH collection Barbizon Palace. The best thing about all these hotels was that they were all centrally located.”

Major excursions
“In Venice, we visited the Murano, Burano and Torcello islands. We took a musical gondola ride… however, our private water taxi till the Venice station was the best for us since it made up for the gondola ride that we didn’t quite enjoy. Venice is a city with water and bridges… there are no cars or heavy vehicles and people move around mainly on foot.”

“We took a Euro rail till Innsbruck to visit the Swarovski Crystal World tour where we bought some jewellery. We also visited a 360-degree bar in Innsbruck to relax with drinks and enjoy panoramic views of the stunning Alps for a while. The Nordkette range of mountains which we reached via a cable car was another fascinating experience.”

“We then flew to Amsterdam and took a countryside tour to Marken and Volendam. The area is picturesque to the core with windmills and beautiful houses of the residents there – exploring the scenic landscape here was an amusing experience.”

“We took the hop-on, hop-off bus tour in Amsterdam where we explored different parts of the city as well as took the cool Heineken experience tour. We particularly enjoyed the pizza cruise. The visit to the tulip gardens in Amsterdam called Keukenhof was amazing, and the breathtaking gardens were a visual treat.”

Best Meal
“One of our best meals were warm pancakes with raspberries, molten chocolate and whipped cream in a small shack in Volendam, which is the countryside in Amsterdam. We also enjoyed Falafels at a restaurant called Maoz in Amsterdam. We highly recommend that to anyone visiting Amsterdam and looking for a filling vegetarian meal. The taste of unlimited fillings/toppings was straight out fabulous.”

Most Romantic Moment
“Our most romantic moments were at a restaurant in Seegrube where we sat together sipping hot chocolate and admiring the picture-perfect snow-clad mountains around us.”

Must Experience
“Innsbruck is absolutely breathtaking! The Swarovski Crystal World tour is also a must-visit attraction.”

Can Avoid
“Couples can skip Amsterdam as it is the most crowded place. Also, gondola rides in Venice can be avoided.”
