Payal Shah is a well-known Hong Kong based jewellery designer, known for her statement pieces. Payal met Nihar in London about 10 years ago and they became good friends. Their families (her parents are based in Hong Kong and his in Belgium) knew each other too. On 28th November, 2014 the beautiful duo got married at a magnificent wedding in Mumbai held across Hotels Trident, Palladium, Four Seasons and NSCI, Worli.
Payal is adventurous in her fashion sense. She doesn't stick to one style. She keeps experimenting with her looks and that showed in her wedding trousseau too. She did most of her wedding shopping in Mumbai. "Since it was the destination where my wedding was taking place, it became an automatic choice for shopping. And it didn't disappoint. All the leading designers have their stores in Mumbai and I could find almost everything I was looking for", she says.
Tarun Tahiliani Lehenga for Nihar's Mehendi
Payal wore a Tarun Tahiliani Lehenga for Nihar's Mehendi. She says, "I was looking for a very bright and fresh look for this event. This lehenga had vibrant thread and mirror work."
I went for a traditional Indian braid and a maang tikka and jadau jewelry to complement the look." Bianca Louzado did her make-up.
Pink Cotton candy dress for Moroccon Night
This dress got Payal the maximum compliments. She was visiting Antwerp and came across brilliant designer Natthida who gave her a beautiful, big, fluffy dress that made her look like a princess in Dreamland. She says, "I was aiming for a regal, elegant look. This dress just swept me off my feet. The texture was beautiful and the colour perfect. It was all what I was looking for. "
She wore four strings of tennis diamond necklaces and matching earpieces. The hairs were all swept on one side and tied in a neat cinnamon bun. Bianca gave her smouldering smoky eyes.
Dhoti saree for Mehendi
Payal says, "For my mehendi, I wanted to wear something that was easy to move around in yet glamorous. So when I came across this stunning red and dark pink dhoti saree by Anamika Khanna, I knew it had to be the one. It had beautiful thread work and suited the fusion theme.
I wore floral jewelry and a pearl necklace that I designed myself. My hair was let down in soft curls. Make-up by Bianca was again very fresh and bright."
Manish Malhotra Lehenga for Sangeet
It was a dusty white lehenga with aqua at the bottom, enhanced with intricate mirror and pearl work. "And it was my favourite outfit", she says: "It fitted me perfectly and looked gorgeous.
When I was at Manish Malhotra's store Urmila Matondkar happened to be there. As soon as I stepped out of the trial room, she exclaimed 'wow' and I just knew that the outfit certainly had that zing. The whole look was sexy & glamorous with makeup by Ojas Rajani. I teamed it up with diamond necklace with emeralds, a diamond maang tikka and big curls for the hair."
Red and gold Lehenga for Wedding
There was a particular red that Payal was keen on for her wedding dress but couldn't find it. Until one day, when she walked into Manish Malhotra's store again and found that exact red and just the kind of work that would make her look regal and royal. She says, "It was stunning with rich zari embroidery. It had two dupattas- the lighter one on the head and the heavier one with rich work for draping." Payal complemented the look with heavy jewelry and Bianca did her make-up.
"Since my wedding would flow into the reception, Manish gave me a very beautiful copper gold blouse to change into, that transformed my look."
The hairs were tied in a high bun for the ceremony, and later left as a loose bun near the neck for the reception. So, a few fine changes made all the difference.
