Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva to wear Tarun Tahiliani on wedding day
Oct 28, 2010 Celeb Weddings to Watch out for
Vivek Oberoi weds Priyanka, daughter of late Janta Dal leader Jeevraj Alva on October 29 at the Alva residence in Bangalore. The bride and groom’s wedding outfits have been designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Vivek is wearing a deep maroon heavy brocade jacket beneath which is an A-line kurta of a light material—so he can move around easily. In an interview to Bombay Times, Tarun Tahiliani has talked about Priyanka’s outfit: “Since she is marrying a Punjabi, I have designed for her a lehenga—with 14 different colors on the panels, almost like a Persian carpet. She teams it with an antique jewellery set of rubies set in gold.”
The invitation cards have been put done by the NGO run by the bride’s mother Nandini Alva– Ganjifa boxes, non-expensive commercial art that’s mass-produced. The guests have received the invitation in the jewellery-style box (described by many guests as elegant and royal) alongwith chocolates, a car pass, invites to the various functions, directions to the wedding venue and a hospitality card with contact numbers of the key wedding organisers. After the wedding celebrations in Bangalore, the Oberois are hosting a grand reception at the ITC Grand Maratha Hotel in Mumbai.
In Bangalore, the Bollywood actor and the baraatis are staying at the Chancery Pavilion where 40 rooms have been booked. All the pre-wedding and the wedding functions are at the Alva residence in Mariannanpalya. The street leading to the farm house has been lit up since the last few days and placards indicating the direction to the venue have been placed. The family has arranged for a lot of security around the area and all guests have been requested to carry along with them their entry pass. Of course, there’s big speculation on who is invited and who is not. According to newspaper reports, Vivek has invited all his Bollywood co-actors, some of whom he does not share a very comfortable relationship with; they include Abhishek Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. Obviously, one is not sure who will actually attend! But one thing is certain; even if Salman Khan receives an invitation, he’s certainly not attending!

Microsoft boss to marry Mahatma Gandhi’s kin
Oct 8, 2010 Celeb Weddings to Watch out for

Microsoft’s India head Ravi Venkatesan is marrying Sonali Kulkarni– not actress Sonali Kulkarni. His bride is the President & CEO of Japanese firm Fanuc India Private Limited. It is the first marriage for both the corporate achievers aged 47 and 45 and the simple wedding is at the Trishna Club, near Ulsoor Lake in Bangalore.
According to newspaper reports, over ten years ago Venkatesan a Tamil Brahmin from Pune fell in love with Sonali, who is Mahatma Gandhi’s great grand-daughter. But his family did not permit the marriage, since the bride was not from the same community. So they waited for a decade—and now the D-day is on October 11. Sonali is the daughter of Sumithra Kulkarni, daughter of Ramdas Gandhi. Sumithra, an ex-IAS officer and a former Rajya Sabha MP and her husband G R Kulkarni, the former Dean of IIM Ahmedabad live in Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore.
The who’s who from the world of business, corporate India and politics are expected to attend the evening wedding. The venue Trishna Club (earlier known as Madras Sappers Club) is a majestic place, where a wedding event is being held for the first time—the club comes under the jurisdiction of the Army authorities and they do not usually give the club for events by non-Army personnel. Obviously a special exception has made been for the very special couple! We would love to see their wedding pictures but our guess is that the couple will choose to keep it a very private affair.

Former Beauty Queens set to earn new title “Queen of Wedding Planning”
Sep 10, 2010 Marriage & Wedding Trends, Wedding People & Planners
Divya and Vithika, two Bangalore based friends are the sought-after Wedding Planners for well-heeled families not only from Bangalore, but for the super-rich residing in smaller towns around Bangalore. The duo who are both former models and Beauty Queens state: “We receive many calls from brides in towns like Tumkur, Coimbatore, Bellary and Tirupur who need help with shopping in bigger cities especially understanding fashion, colors and styling, grooming, nutrition and skin care. According to them, many of their clients have the unique requirement of wanting South Indian creations with a designer touch. “While some clients look for traditional or timeless creations from Ritu Kumar, or dazzling wear by Neeta Lulla, many still prefer elaborate kanjeevarams, especially for the wedding functions. So we take their kanjeevarams to designers who embellish the saree with original one of kind designs, and sometimes they even create an interesting langa davani (which is a fusion of the South Indian pavadai davani and North Indian lehenga choli).”
The largest wedding which Divya and Vithika organized was for 11,000 guests in Tumkur. “The Kalyana Mandapams (marriage halls) continue to be sought-after for the main wedding function, and now most clients prefer the five-star hotels for the pre or post wedding parties, or a venue like Palace Grounds, if their guest-list is huge.” With years of experience in modeling and their great interest in fashion, decor and style, they believe they possess a unique edge, in matters of wedding management: “A wedding is a very creative event. And while we are pretty organized on the management and logistics support aspect, we also add immense value by giving clients extensive inputs on colors, trends and styles—be it for their trousseau, the wedding themes or venue decor”, say the duo who share a common passion for people and all things bright and beautiful.
For both Divya who won Miss India Earth crown in 1997, and Vithika who won the same crown in 1998, their most memorable wedding experiences, are their own respective weddings. Vithika, a Marwari married a British Joseph Cairns at the Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur while Divya a Rajput married Awanish Kumar at the Asiad Towers, near Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi. “Equipped with eight years of experience in events spanning from corporate to private parties we realized that true job satisfaction came from being a part of a very special wedding. No other event brings the satisfaction as that of seeing two families unite”.
