Sowmya Rajaji from PetalsNDrapes shares, “We designed a stunning floral garden for a Christian wedding reception celebration at The Leela Palace Chennai’s Grand Ballroom that gave us so much space to be as innovative as we wished! The couple and their family were keen on giving their guests an impression that they were amidst a floral garden and that is exactly what we did with a few personalized elements. Since the couple shared a unique love story with its own share of cliches, we used flowers to signify every phase of their story, like, brassica, protea and delphinium along with blooms, like roses, carnations and the baby’s breath that are symbolic of romance.”

Sowmya shares, “This was a mehndi event in which we took a unique route as the family wanted to reconnect with their Tamil roots having lived abroad for most of their lives. We took inspiration from traditional architecture that is found across homes in southern India. The main decor exuded vibes of a homely ‘thinnai’ which is a verandah found in homes across this region. Tulsi madaans were placed on either side for auspiciousness just like they are at a home and the tiles were also placed in a similar fashion. The antique furniture and lunges added to the beauty of the event and it almost felt like one was entering an ancestral home! The centerpieces on the tables also emanated a luxurious aroma with jasmine buds, cardamom and cloves. Musical instruments were strategically placed to signify the client’s love for Carnatic music.”

Sowmya shares, “The couple and their families wanted the reception decor to be in sync with the luxurious ambience of The Leela Palace Chennai. And what better than a traditional royal backdrop? After much brainstorming, we went for the red and gold colour palette that we paired with aesthetic antique elements. Plus, the clients were huge fans of Sabyasachi and we humbly took inspiration from his designs.”
