Minimalism and elegance ruled the roost at this Indo-Japanese engagement ceremony hosted on the shores of Mumbai

A close-knit celebration that witnessed a seamless fusion between Indo-Japanese cultures, Karina Kan and Rugved Rane’s engagement ceremony flaunted a serene colour palette while embracing minimalism. Hosted at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, the elegant celebration unfolded with plenty of warm moments, cheers and smiles.
Sharing how they crossed paths Karina says, “Rugved and I met in a Japanese architectural firm, and we are both working as an architect. We used to be friends and we hung out with our colleagues a lot during weekends. Plus, the two of us went to the gym very often during lunch hours on weekdays. From thereon, we started bonding and grew close.”
For Rugved, it has been a whirlwind journey where his dreams merge with reality. He goes on to share, “My mum used to work with the Japanese for jewellery trading. When I was in primary school under her influence, I learnt Japanese and fell in love with the Japanese culture. Later in life, I luckily got a job in Tokyo, one of my favorite cities in the world, at an architectural firm I’d always admired. And, that’s where I met Karina.”
Hosted at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai at one of its spacious indoor spaces, the engagement fused the beauty of Indian vibrance with Japanese elegance. Blue and white hues dominated the colour palette. And, as the couple walked in, they were greeted by loud cheers. An asymmetrical floral arch framed the couple as they cut the cake – a stunning three-tiered creation that was in sync with the decor theme and bore the duo’s initials. Additionally, the couple took the opportunity to capture some candid pre-wedding shots of themselves surrounded by the colonial charm of the venue. As they explored The Taj Mahal Palace’s historic interiors, the duo had a fun time sharing playful banter while feasting their eyes on the majestic Gateway of India.
