A ‘garden-themed’ mandap with floral peacocks, a metallic tree, and Indian bells that perfectly combined traditional and modern elements

Apurva, a dentist by profession, and Ankit, a real estate developer by day and musician by night, had an uneventful first meeting but forged a solid connection over a series of exchanges that saw them sharing their love for food and memes. WeddingSutra Favorite – Q Events and Weddings conceptualized and designed distinctive decor for the various events held in Pune. Check out their work, and other highlights of the celebrations here.

How They Met
With a common friend playing Cupid, Apurva and Ankit were set up to meet without them knowing about it. The duo didn’t really hit it off initially, and it was only when Ankit later slipped into Apurva’s Instagram DMs that sparks began to fly. She shares, “After our first meeting, we did not stay in touch until he slipped into my Instagram Messages and we started sharing jokes and memes. Our second meeting was at a music festival and I loved his passion for music. The next time we met, he showed up outside my place at night and somehow convinced me to sneak out for a conversation in my torch-lit clinic over a bottle of wine. That morning, he asked me out, and I said ‘Yes!’ We just knew that being together would be the most enjoyable union as we traveled, ate, and explored the world as a team.”

Wedding Venues
The celebrations were held at The Westin Pune Koregaon Park. The property served as the perfect canvas for the couple and their families’ dreams of hosting a classy, ‘larger than life’ wedding. With its convenient location and spacious halls, the hotel accommodated the requirements of every function with ease.

Wedding Planning
With a desire to have a standout wedding, Apurva and Ankit collaborated with Damini Oberoi from Q Events and Weddings. She and her team created breathtaking decor setups with combinations of colors and diverse elements to give the couple and their guests an unforgettable experience. Avinash Talluri from Shutters N Frames captured all beautiful moments with his expert eye, and Sonia Rahul Prasad made sure Apurva looked stunning at every event.

Weddings Functions

Haldi and Mehndi
The wedding celebrations started with a close-knit haldi ceremony for Ankit at his home, and a cozy mehndi ceremony for Apurva at her place.

Sangeet
For the glitzy evening sangeet, the couple made a decision to go for colors that are typically used for daytime events. Damini Oberoi, from Q Events and Weddings, shares, “We chose to go for yellow with a hint of baby pink to brighten up the atmosphere. Adding a magical glow to the venue was a pathway of candle stands and flowers which led to a gorgeous neon sign that spelled ‘Love’, where guests could take selfies. The usual LED screens that one sees at Indian weddings were given a unique twist with decor added in an abstract way over the LED screen on stage. The bar was designed keeping in mind the after-party, and elements like disco ball chandeliers added a luminous glow to the venue. Our dual-toned sequin, linen, and candlelit centerpieces were a big hit too.”

The celebrations went on into the wee hours of the morning with famous singer Mika Singh and DJ Zubair from Dubai entertaining guests with their tracks. Apurva looked like a star in her deep purple gown, while Ankit cut a dashing figure in a black velvet bandhgala suit.

Wedding
Working on the vision shared by the groom’s family, the Q Events and Weddings came up with a series of stunning decor ideas that included plenty of florals and larger than life installations.

Damini shares, “Keeping the brief shared with us in mind, we came up with a dreamy wedding setup. The walkway to the wedding was created with walls constructed out of fresh greens and French window shaped mirrors, which were filled with vibrant floral arrangements and lamps placed on console tables. A walkway above the mandap gave the impression of a starry night for the reception that was to follow. It was a 140-ft high ceiling with bougainvilleas and greens hanging along with the bulbs.”

The bride and groom exchanged garlands on a beautiful mandap that was nicknamed ‘Juliet’s corner’ by the guests as it was constructed in the shape of a balcony adorned with fresh flowers.

Following a ‘garden’ theme for the mandap, the decor included a majestic metallic tree with white orchids and Indian bells were suspended just above the couple. Large floral peacocks in the hues of pink and red, gorgeous garden sofas, mirror top tables, and printed fabric upholstery all added to the chic garden theme. Curated by the planning team, the musicians played live Indian classical tunes and wedding prayers when the couple exchanged garlands and during the pheras.

After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed live Bollywood music and delicious cuisine. The food area included an island salad bar that featured a massive floral structure and five large chandeliers. Apurva glowed in a white and lilac lehenga which she paired with kundan jewellery. Ankit, on the other hand, chose a white bandhgala suit that he paired with a pink turban adorned with a gold pin.
