Inspired by Gothic Cathedral arches, this quaint wedding decor is all the spring decor inspo you need!

San Francisco-based Kahkashan Afrin and Ashif Iquebal’s wedding in Kolkata was as special as it was beautiful, brimming with moments that left us in awe. Doing away with age-old practices, such as strict purdah and separate stages, in favor of more modern, inclusive practices like walking down the aisle and sitting side-by-side for their vows, they embraced tradition while staying true to themselves, all of which was celebrated against an enchanting backdrop crafted to perfection by WeddingSutra Favorite – Design HQ.

Nestled amid the lush lawns of The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat, the Nikkah took place in an ethereal romantic setting decked with blooms and foliage. The decor was inspired by a Cathedral in San Francisco where the couple currently resides, and held deep sentimental value. The circular nuptial stage featured 16th-century Romanesque-Gothic architectural elements such as pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and glass windows that allowed the light to seep in to create a warm ambiance at the altar, like the comfort of being in your living room. Symbolic Islamic elements like brass “itardaani”, as well as rose candles, flowers, and more added to the charm of the occasion.

Donning a gorgeous Sabyasachi Mukherjee gown with a floor-length veil and custom kaleerein designed by Mrinalini Chandra, the bride walked down the aisle to her groom before taking her place on the stage beside him for their vows. Drawing strength from their love, the courage the couple channeled on the day in the face of social critique, even from some of their guests, added to the beauty and uniqueness of the celebration.
