Jehana and Kanishk’s Platinum Love Story

US-based Interior Stylist Jehana Jabbar and Finance Manager Kanishk Mishra both grew up in Singapore and India but only happened to cross paths in Dubai 7 years ago. Having just graduated college, Jehana was on the hunt for an internship opportunity in PR, while Kanishk was a few years ahead of her in the same field and was working in one of the biggest PR Firms in Dubai. They were put in touch by their mothers who happened to be friends, and with Kanishk’s recommendation, she started interning at his firm.
Despite working in separate departments and at different levels, they seemed like a perfect match to their friends and colleagues, who lo and behold, seemed to have been spot on in their estimation. Jehana shares, “At an age where most are influenced by their peers and social expectations of what makes you ‘cool’ or ‘popular’, I was awestruck by how comfortable and confident Kanishk was in his skin. Introverted yet much loved by everyone, he showed me the value of substance over flash, and I found myself striving to be more like him. Over the years, he has always been my sounding board, grounding me, but also constantly inspiring me.” Kanishk adds, “Opposites definitely do attract because what drew me the most to Jehana was her outgoing personality. Youthful exuberance aside, her drive to succeed was second to none, as I see her achieve everything she set her mind to. To date, she continues to push me to become a better version of myself, with an energy that makes everything around her brighter!”
When a couple of years into the relationship Kanishk decided to move to LA to pursue his master’s degree, they faced a crossroads moment where most people would either choose to part ways or hasten a decision to get married. Jehana and Kanishk however never felt the need to panic or put pressure on their relationship. Kanishk shares, “Starting again in a new country right from studying and then establishing myself professionally from scratch, came with its own set of challenges and stressful experiences. While I saw many peers struggle with the day-to-day, knowing I had Jehana’s support anchored me through it all, and gave me the motivation to keep pushing. Seeing her faith in me spurred me to work harder to become the person she believed me to be.” Jehana on the other hand shares, “Growing up as a child of a single mother, I was always driven by the need for success and financial independence, and Kanishk intrinsically understood my motivations. From giving me professional advice and helping me prep for meetings to lending me an ear so I could practice my pitches, he was with me in spirit through it all, even if he could not be beside me in person. Even something as small as him waking me up for early morning meetings made me feel connected and cared for.”
Understanding the importance of thriving in their individual lives before they could focus on building a life together, they could always rely on each other to be a source of comfort and love to fuel their growth. So when Jehana shifted to the US in the middle of the Pandemic and had to face the uncertainty of lockdown restrictions and upheaval in her career, she could take the leap knowing Kanishk would have her back no matter what came next. “From taking some time to recharge and decorate our first home to discovering an interest in interior styling and then hustling to build a fully-fledged career in it, my path was filled with both excitement and challenges, and I am so grateful to Kanishk for walking beside me,” she says. Kanishk adds, “Having a true partner is so much more than just someone to be beside you. Living on my own, my house felt like a pitstop to rest after a day of work, but Jehana is the one who made it into a home. From helping me live a healthier life to opening myself up to people and experiences, going beyond my comfort zone, and even improving my family relationships, she has helped me be a better person in every aspect of my life”.
