Love Actually- Deepika Naik and Showbhik Goswamy’s Platinum Day of Love

Our new initiative- ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring engaged couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates the beautiful people in love as they start their lives together. Because real love can only begin, never end. Over coffee, a makeover and a photo shoot we get to-be-weds to tell us how they met, show us their platinum love bands and talk about their day of love.

For the second photo shoot we invited Deepika Naik and Showbhik Goswamy from Bangalore. The duo met when they were working in the same Multinational Company in 2009. Deepika says: “We had common friends at the workplace, but we talked to each other for the first time at the office Christmas party.” They started hanging out with friends during the lunch breaks or post work hours but Deepika smiles and recalls how they didn’t really get along initially. “We probably felt we had nothing in common”, explains Showbhik: “We had arguments during some discussions so obviously our views were quite divergent then.” They continued to hang out with the group, and one of their friends even sensed something was brewing between Deepika and Showbhik. “I was livid when I heard it, the last thing I wanted was to be linked to him, and for a few days I avoided talking to him in front of others”, says Deepika. But over a period of time a lot happened, and at some point they starting liking each other. “Suddenly the arguments stopped”, says Showbhik “and on 27th December, around a year after we first met, I proposed to her.” Deepika shares: “By then I was also madly in love with him. Showbhik proposed to me in ‘filmy’ style on the street in front of my apartment. If I were to know that he’ll propose in the middle of the road, I would have been embarrassed at the thought, but this was a big surprise and one of the most beautiful moments of my life.”

Deepika and Showbhik got engaged at the Soul Vacations Resort & Spa in Colva, Goa on 18th September. Says Deepika: “It was my parents’ idea to have the engagement ceremony in Goa, as they wanted our side of relatives, and his side to interact informally. So it was a ‘family only’ affair where both families spent time getting to know each other. The wedding, a traditional Bengali affair will take place on 15th February in Showbhik’s home town in West Bengal.”

The duo decided to celebrate their love with Platinum Love Bands. “Before our formal engagement we started our search for Platinum Love Bands. We describe our style as simple and elegant, much like what Platinum is; and it is a magnificent metal that is known to last forever, so it perfectly symbolizes our love.” They found their rings at Bangalore’s C. Krishnaiah Chetty (CKC) & Sons. “We knew CKC has a reputation for selling the best quality diamonds, so when we reached the store they showed us some really nice platinum and diamond rings, and in a few minutes we chose our symbols of love.”
