Shot by Plush Affairs, this impromptu home wedding shows us exactly how it’s done!

Brought together by a fascinating series of events, Kriti and Divay embraced their destiny of being together for eternity with an impromptu home wedding amidst the nationwide lockdown. With a total headcount of 10, delectable home cooked food, minimal décor and a whole lot of fun, their wedding revelries were captured in candid beauty by WeddingSutra Favorite – Plush Affairs. The bride shared their story with us.

Kriti and Divay

Two years ago, Kriti ran into an old batchmate from school who excitedly offered to set her up with Divay, her husband’s best friend, an offer that she declined then. Not looking to settle down at the time, she didn’t give the matter a second thought. But then, destiny is a funny thing. A year down, another old school friend offered to set her up yet again, and this time, she was ready and actually looking forward to her surprise date. Lo and behold, who should turn up but Divay.

The New York based couple flew down to India in March for their formal engagement, with plans to tie the knot much later. With the effects of the pandemic sweeping the globe, they stayed back in their respective family homes. However, soon after, when Kriti landed her dream job back in New York, the couple decided to take the leap and tie the knot in an intimate home ceremony before heading back. Kriti shares, “We were faced with what felt like a million challenges! Travel permissions from Jaipur to Bhopal had to be procured for Divay, his sister and his brother-in-law. Also, unfortunate as it was, Divay’s parents could not make the long road trip due to health conditions. Not to forget, my parents had 2 days to put together the wedding, which meant organizing a pandit, decorators, food, and all of it amidst the lockdown. However, with a lot of support and help from our friends and families, we managed to pull everything together. Once health safety prevails again in the world, we would definitely celebrate in style once again!”

The bride donned a stunning hot-pink Banarasi saree gifted by her mother and accessorized it with her mother’s jewelry. Her minimal, glowing makeup and elegant, pulled back hair was created by Manish Atle. With a stroke of luck, the groom managed to procure his dream wedding outfit on special request from a Jaipur boutique. His beige sherwani with intricate peacock enameled buttons, pink safaa, matching shoes and his heritage jewelry perfectly complemented the bride’s ensemble. The team of Plush Affairs captured the nuances of the couple’s love and the cozy celebrations in perfect frames. “Being a professional fashion photographer myself, I can’t stress enough on how good of a job they had done. I was blessed with a great team and that’s why the wedding turned out so seamless” shares the bride.

Planned and executed by Aparnna Motwani of Kalammkari events, the bride’s parental home in Bhopal was beautiful decked up with minimal yet elegant décor accenting the natural beauty of the space. The mandap was set up with fresh flowers against a pleasing water fixture in the garden as the backdrop. Melodious tunes by live musicians filled the festivities with cheer.

The bride’s family ensured utmost safety with generous sanitization and security measures. A large sanitization machine was acquired to disinfect all areas, and most of the help was provided by their domestic help and their family who had observed all precautions. All the musicians were positioned appropriately to maintain social distancing from the guests. The celebrations saw a total of 10 people including the bride and the groom, and the delectable food was all home-made and provided by friends of the bride’s mother. “Even though they weren’t attending the wedding in person, they were gracious enough to bless us with amazing food” shared the bride.

To all the brides whose weddings have been postponed or canceled, the bride shared some words of advice. “There is a lot of pressure on the bride to look good on their wedding day, which I completely understand. I didn’t have the option to go shopping and pick my wedding outfit. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this carefree wedding. My outfit was light-weight, and it allowed me to dance around my house and play with my dog on the floor. Everything was beautiful and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. My one suggestion would be to just go for it. Trust your parents to do the best they can in that situation. And above all, if you can dance at the baraat even though you are the bride, do it and make sure you take your entire family along! We had the best time because it wasn’t just the groom’s baraat, we had a ‘combined baraat’!”
