The royal precinct was inaugurated in 1912, and was later acquired by the Maharaja of Gondal in 1952. The opera house was initially set up with the intention of staging operas, and was the preferred destination exclusively for the city’s elite. Later, in 1935 the opera house was modified for movie screenings and fashion shows. In the early 90’s the movie theatre was closed down, and after a long period of restoration, the major Mumbai landmark reopened in 2016.
Co-hosted by Ashish Doshi, Honorary Director of Royal Opera House and Parthip Thyagarajan, CEO of WeddingSutra.com in association with Studio Kitchen, the exclusive evening saw some of Mumbai’s top event curators, social influencers, and brides and grooms-to-be!

The menu was carefully engineered to serve a range of different palates, and the spread spanned a ‘Submerged’ Dimsum Bar to ‘Progressive Indian’ Jack Daniels infused Dal Makhani and delicious Sri Lankan Anas Curry.
Guests included star matchmaker Sima Taparia who came with her husband Anup Taparia, Aarti and Kailash Surendranath, Malti and Mudit Jain, Rajiv Kapoor of Fairmont Jaipur, Cholada Siddhivarn of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Lubaina Sheerazi of BrandIT, Gaurika Rai of Warp ‘N Weft, Shaan S Khanna of Networking Now. Ashish Doshi and his team at Royal Opera House showcased the magnificent corners of the venue for an intimate yet grand wedding celebration- the statuesque auditorium that can accommodate over 300 guests for a Sangeet, the ornate pre-function area that is perfect for a sit down dinner for 30 to 40 guests, and the overall complex with lawns that has played host to a floating guest list of over 600 people.
Needless to say, it was an exquisite evening at one of Mumbai’s most exclusive addresses replete with a stunning ambience, delectable array of food and of course, the society’s elite.
