The emirate of Fujairah is one of the UAE’s best-kept secrets but perhaps not for much longer. Couples like Joel and Alisha who want to host a wedding at a picturesque location off the beaten path find exactly what they’re dreaming of here. This couple picked WeddingSutra Favorite – Vivaah Weddings to fill in all details for a wedding that exceeded their expectations.

The Intercontinental Fujairah Resort is a scenic property with captivating views of the mountains and the ocean. Rahul Kumar of Vivaah Weddings says, “The Intercontinental Fujairah Resort is a hotel with world-class facilities and a strong culinary team. Their indoor and outdoor venues are adaptable to a range of functions. For example, the pheras can be hosted outdoors like we did – with the Hajjar Mountains behind and the Arabian Ocean in the front.” The hotel managed to accommodate a large number of the wedding’s extensive guest list too while others found rooms in several of Fujairah’s other well-appointed hotels.

When a wedding is tailor-made to the tastes and personalities of the couple, it makes it both unique and memorable. Alisha wanted to create an exclusive experience for her guests. Rahul Kumar says, “Alisha’s father, Rajan Sippy, is a former Indian actor. With several film producers in the family, they had a lot of Bollywood ties. However, despite being from Tinseltown, she didn’t want glamor to overpower the wedding. Instead, she wanted a beautiful celebration with extraordinary ideas. Joel, being the supportive groom always agreed to her plans which made our jobs a little easier!”

The celebrations began with the mehendi. The wedding planners said, “We created a colorful ribbon tunnel inspired by string art at the entrance and it became the highlight of the event. Furniture furthered the colorful theme – rustic wooden seating and tablescapes adorned with flowers and fruit.” Every element in the ballroom added to the cheery, summer vibe indoors but the joy reached out to those beyond the walls of the hotel. Rahul says, “The fruit used in the centerpieces were later donated to the poor and needy, which definitely added a meaningful facet to the joyful celebration.”

After the mehendi, it was time for the sangeet with its more sophisticated color palette of red and black. This classic combination was given a youthful spritz via the ‘XO’ theme. Held on the open lawns of the hotel, Rahul says, “The large ‘XO’ photobooth invited all the guests to get some great shots. Then, the larger than life stage with customized LED graphics served as the perfect backdrop for some wonderful performances.” Red roses in full bloom were rendered as decoration as well as centerpieces, adding an element of romance and mystery to the canvas of drapes and linens in black and white.

The wedding day itself was all about Indian aesthetics. Peacock motifs dominated the décor. Rahul says, “The aisle to the mandap was decorated with peacock feathers in watercolors. The image of the mandap bedecked in flowers, the imposing Hajjar Mountains behind, will remain in everyone’s mind’s eye forever. As the sun began to set, the beauty of the decor was taken up a notch and there was a moment of silent awe.” While the ceremony was conducted, guests were handed personalized fans with the wedding rituals decoded so that everyone could understand the significance of what was going on.

The enchanting finale – the couple’s reception – was a vision in white. The main elements this evening were white roses and baby’s breath making for a whimsical, romantic atmosphere. Rahul says, “We created clouds of delicate baby’s breath and candles as centerpieces.” Some tables even featured canopies with the roof enveloped in blooms. Performer Stephen Ben’s scintillating performances had everyone entertained while the emotional speeches by the couple’s family members left not a dry eye in the house.
