Faarah and Zaryan
WeddingSutra Favorites - Jul 21, 2015
WeddingSutra launches a brand new initiative to help to-be-weds with their wedding planning: ‘A day with WeddingSutra Favorites’. As part of this initiative, we curate a customized program for a selected WeddingSutra reader where we arrange for visits to some of our favourite wedding specialists or new salons/ stores. In the first post of this series we feature Faarah and Zaryan. Our team members, who put together their program, were full of praise for this lovely couple: “They are very enthusiastic about wedding preps and it was a lot of fun being out with them”. Here’s their story and find out how they spent their day with us!
Faarah: “In 2009, Zaryan and I graduated from H.R. College; there we only knew each other by our first names. However in 2010 we met again while pursuing our Post Graduation at K.C. Management College and then there was no looking back! From being acquaintances to friends, we soon became best friends! We were teased for the longest time by all our friends but god had his own plans and ‘Love Actually’ happened in January last year and 10 months later we got engaged (November 2014). We are getting married on 3rd December in Mumbai; marrying your best friend is a feeling I can’t really express in words, I’d just like to say that fairy-tales do come true, all you need is faith, trust and some pixie dust!!”
Stop 1: Deliciae Wedding Cakes
Faarah & Zaryan’s Review: Everyone knows that a cake should not only look good, it should taste good too. Deliciae Wedding Cakes scores high on this. Suchit Mahajan who along with his mother Bunty Mahajan runs Deliciae Patisserie showed us many options- we particularly liked the Fondant with stencil/ floral designs as well as the buttercream ones. We were excited that we could get customized toppers to match our wear. We tasted the Belgian Chocolate, Red Velvet and the Caramel Crunch which were all very good. They also specialise in custom-wrapped chocolates/ macroons and brownies for gifting. Overall it was a fruitful and warm experience interacting with Suchit, and the visit has given us clarity on the design, flavour and basic look of what our Wedding Cake would ideally be.
Prices: Rs.1800 per kg onwards*
Stop 2: Rozina Trousseau
Faarah’s Review: Rozina’s studio at Hill Road, Bandra has a nice variety of bridal gowns, lehengas, sarees and churidar kurtas which are not too heavy, and which brides might want for a pre-wedding celebration or a reception. Rozina and her daughter Faarah showed us different saree options and designs which could be customized to my liking and requirement. I felt most of their designs are unique and eye-catching.
Prices: Rs.45,000 onward*
Stop 3: Lakme Absolute Salon
Faarah & Zaryan’s Review: This was our first visit to the beautifully designed Lakme Absolute Salon in Bandra and it was one of the most interesting and informational experiences in the day. Pallavi Jain gave us a detailed skin consultation and guided us on products to use for glowing and healthy skin. The products recommended by her ranged from high-end to mid-range. She also gave us detailed information on the pre-wedding packages for brides and grooms (Lakme Absolute Salon is uni-sex) and wedding day services for brides.
Prices: Bridal Make-up is Rs. 15,000* (includes Saree Draping & Hairstyling) at the salon itself. If the Makeup Artist has to visit the home/ venue the pricing is higher.
Stop 4: RUOSH
Zaryan’s Review: I always felt shoe shops are more focussed on women-shoppers, but not anymore thanks to stores like RUOSH. A visit to this store is an educational experience in the age-old craft of shoemaking and we were taken on a journey on the evolution of the shoe and how RUOSH produces each shoe with utmost care. There were shoes for all occasions and activities, and a corner dedicated to grooms. I was most impressed with their hand-finished range and the level of comfort of each pair I tried on. All in all, it is a must-visit store for every groom-to-be and a one-stop-shop for every shoe connoisseur.
Prices: Rs 6,000 to Rs.15,000*
Stop 5: Crimzon Accessories
Faarah’s Review: Crimzon specializes in wedges and custom-made footwear. A visit to their store changed my perception that brides only wear stilettos on their wedding day. Here, instead of stilettos you find wedges and block heels which are most comfortable for tired feet; they have limited options on display, this is a bespoke service and Sonali Dalwani designs the shoes as per the bride’s need and vision.
Prices: Rs. 3,500 onward*
Stop 6: Floral Art
Faarah & Zaryan’s Review: Floral Art run by mother-daughter duo Kavita and Srishti Kapur stocks and designs attractive boxes, bags and trays for gifting and packaging. They make unique stuff like floral jewellery and do décor for pre-wedding functions too.
Prices: We personally felt most of their creations are expensive, but their quality and finish appear to be very good and hence the premium price.
Stop 7: A Travel Duet
Faarah & Zaryan’s Review: Both of us have been stuck on the idea of a ‘beach holiday’ and the personal interaction with Pritish Shah of ‘A Travel Duet’ was very useful. He suggested we try a beach + city holiday combination, and thanks to his experience with planning so many honeymoons, he had some good pointers on the weather in December, newest places to stay, how to plan/ allocate our budget and how ‘A Travel Duet’ crafts the itinerary keeping into account all these factors.
Stop 8: Waman Hari Pethe
Faarah & Zaryan’s Review: The Waman Hari Pethe staff is very courteous and warm and it was nice to visit a traditional jewellery store stocking a range of wedding jewellery. We started by checking out their diamond jewellery and then they showed us the newly launched platinum ‘Evara’ wedding collection for men and women. All the designs were sleek and contemporary which go well with different colours and outfits, we would have liked to see more range in this collection though.
Prices: Rs 1,25,000 onward (chains, bracelets and bangles) and Rs 4,00,000 onward (necklace/ earrings set)
Pervin Sarkari’s (Faarah’s Mother) Review: When Faarah and Zaryan told me they’ll be out with WeddingSutra, and asked me to accompany them I was obviously thrilled. It was nice to have someone put together a plan to visit different places- exclusive studios, large stores in crowded streets and wedding service providers who operate from homes. ‘A Day with WeddingSutra’ is indeed very different from visiting a wedding exhibition, or just meeting a planner- here, one spends quality time and gets depth information from different specialists.
*The prices are as per notes taken by Faarah and Zaryan and readers are requested to recheck the same with the store/ specialists.
