Prekshaa and Gaurav

Our brand new initiative, ‘A Day with WeddingSutra Favourites’ is taking off! A whole day spent visiting a specially curated list of jewellery experts, wedding couturiers and other specialists has turned out to be invaluable for couples planning their wedding.

Prekshaa Sharma and Gaurav Patel met through a blind date, it was Prekshaa’s sister who played cupid when she realized the ‘super honest’, ‘Mr Organised’ and ‘Mr Understanding Gaurav’ would be a perfect match for her sister. The blind date was followed by chatting, phone calls, lunches, dinners, confused love, arguments, more confusion, fights, tears and finally, the declaration of love. The lovebirds exchanged rings on Christmas (25 December 2014), and they’ll be saying I do’s in Mumbai in winter 2015. Here, Prekshaa and Gaurav write about their Day with WeddingSutra.

Stop 1: Evara Platinum Blessings at Nikita Jewellers
Prekshaa: I always wanted jewellery that was best suited for every occasion beyond marriage and also had some meaning to it. The Platinum Evara collection at Nikita Jewellers completely changed my perception of platinum jewellery! Evara has a diverse range, each piece is versatile enough to complement traditional or casual attire. The best part is whenever I wear the jewellery, it will remind me of the blessing of love from my parents.

Gaurav: Evara is about the parent’s blessing and there is a lot of thought that has been put into each design. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Evara collection for men at Nikita. I’ve always liked platinum, for its understated style which suits my need for daily wear. Nikita Jewelers has an excellent collection of platinum jewellery, it is a nice store with great staff assistance!

Stop 2: Makeup Consultation by Biguine Makeup- Jean Claude Biguine Salon
Prekshaa: Selecting a make-up artist is as important as outfit selection, I think. I was really glad Jean Claude Biguine (JCB) was one of our stops. Jumana Lakdawala, the senior make-up artist at JCB was very helpful and we had a great discussion on their bridal make-up services and the different looks I could wear for different functions.

Stop 3: RUOSH Shoes
Prekshaa: I LOVE SHOES and I agree with the RUOSH store tagline- Pity we do not make shoes for women. The collection was simply amazing. Traditional but non-conventional shoes for any occasion and Gaurav, my mum and I all loved them.

Gaurav: Simply superb collection! They explained the complex shoe making process in depth. I am going to re-visit RUOSH soon.

Stop 4: Truefitt & Hill – London’s oldest barber shop
Prekshaa: I had no idea there exists such a fab mens-only salon in Mumbai. Truefitt & Hill’s grooming packages are a must-try for men and make perfect pre-wedding gifts!

Gaurav: Truefitt & Hill exemplify the sort of British luxury that comes with 210 years of history. An excellent range of grooming products and every groom in Mumbai should try one of the services before his big day.

Stop 5: Malaga
Prekshaa: I have always loved Malaga’s fab range of accessories like clutches & batwas, but I was happily surprised to see their collection of sarees and anarkalis. Malini Agarwalla, the owner and designer, has opened her new store at Hughes Road and it was an absolute pleasure interacting with her. Her designs are unconventional, young and trendy. My mum was especially impressed with the colors and told me that my trousseau should definitely have a few Malaga pieces.

Stop 6: Raymond Made to Measure
Prekshaa: Our second last stop was the Raymond store at Breach Candy. My fiancé was more than happy to try out the blazers and bandhgalas here. Raymond’s gave us a new perspective; we realized that blazers don’t necessarily have to be beige, black or blue but grooms can play around with metallic pinks, etc.

Gaurav: WeddingSutra saved the best for last. I was really confused about wedding suits. But no one can match the range at Raymond’s. The team had a few blazers set out for me to try. Loved the fit, the texture and the master was very helpful with sizing. The marketing team encouraged me to be a little adventurous with choosing colors. I’ll definitely be shopping here.

Stop 7: Canvera Photo App
Prekshaa: It’s been 7 months since our engagement and I am still struggling with printing an album. WeddingSutra told us to check out the Canvera website to find our wedding photographer and the cool features of their newly launched photobook app—a great way for brides and grooms to share photos with family and friends.

Gaurav: Great idea from the best wedding album makers. Extremely innovative and convenient to share beautiful wedding memories!

Stop 8: A Travel Duet
Prekshaa: Thanks to WeddingSutra we got to know about A Travel Duet. The Kolkata based company with offices in different cities specialises in customizing honeymoon holidays. They make special efforts to get to know the couple and their interests and based on the month/ date of travel they craft a suggested itinerary. We met the very charming and articulate Kanika Gandhi who manages A Travel Duet’s operations in Mumbai. We told Kanika that we are considering Greece or Italy to travel in April or May. Kanika informed us that May is not the best time to visit Greece, but if we just want to go there, we should push our travel dates to June. Italy on the other hand, she said would be lovely in May. In Greece, she recommended we spend time in Santorini and Mykonos which we should explore by cycling through the town and beaches, with a guided experience of wine and food tastings along the way. In Italy, she said we should consider Italian countryside + Vineyard experience and include Tuscany in our itinerary. She told us to check out the website of a splendid property named Il Borro. And after Tuscany proceed to Venice and Amalfi Coast. We will keep logging on to www.atravelduet.com for more ideas and recommendations from their clients who have shared their experiences.

Mrs Sharma (Prekshaa’s mother): A day with WeddingSutra favourites was indeed a day well spent. From jewellery and make-up to clothes and shoes, the team covered everything. The visits were very helpful and came at the perfect time for us, as we are looking at finalizing and closing most of the vendors.
